Anak ni Tapia: Leaving Mother takes audiences on a personal and poignant journey through memory, identity, and reconciliation. The 80-minute performance unpacks the complexities of living life as a queer Filipina immigrant, a daughter living in the shadow of a larger-than-life celebrity mother, and a woman discovering her own voice.
The play debuted at Links Hall’s Festival of New Works in June 2024 as a culmination of Lani’s six-month Co-MISSION Artist fellowship. The show was also featured as one of six winning plays at Artemisia Theatre’s #WeWomen Festival at the Little Studio, Fine Arts Building in Chicago in November 2024. Directed by Daisy Castro, with music and sound design by Demetrio Maguigad and Michael Querubin, movement coaching by Nejla Yatkin, and tech design by Giau Truong.
